Sign Al Gore's Petition for Treaty on Climate Change

A message from Al Gore:

Dear Friend,

In Bali, Indonesia thousands of delegates from nearly 190 countries have gathered at the UN Conference on Climate Change. In ten days, I will address the conference to urge the adoption of a visionary new treaty to address global warming and I want to bring your voices with me.

Click here to sign my petition today and I will bring your signatures on stage with me as a clear demonstration of our resolve:
http://climateprotect.org/standwithal

Together, we will call on the US government to assume a new leadership role in solving the climate crisis.

World leaders including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and newly elected Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have all agreed to aggressively battle the climate crisis - yet our country still lags behind.

Over the next ten days, I would like you to help me get people from across the country to sign our message to the global community. We can demonstrate that the American people understand the immediacy of the climate crisis and want to work with the nations of the world to solve it. Time is short - we need to mobilize everyone to bring this message to Bali: http://climateprotect.org/standwithal

The American people want a visionary treaty to address climate change and for the US government to play a positive leadership role in its development.

Thank you,

Al Gore

P.S.After signing the petition, please urge your friends and family to sign the petition and join the movement. http://climateprotect.org/standwithal

Mother Earth Feels our Pain

Mother Earth Abused (c)

If only you could see her and feel her pain
She is totally and unequivocably abused
In intense pain and agony
She is lying on her side in a foetal position
Head resting on a moss-covered rock also slowly disintegrating
Wondering, wondering, wondering…
She used to be fully clothed
She is now half clothed – hardly any covering, hardly any jewelry
Tears flow from her eyes
Before they were tears of joy
Meandering gently around the globe
Now they are tears of woe , agony imbedded in the tears,
Lots of water rushing and flowing, on the one hand
Glaciers melting, floods accumulating, mountains deforested
On the other, not enough to dissipate drought and desertification
Around her is debris and rubble
The foundation on which she lies slowly disintegrating
Disappearing, so disturbing to grasp that
This is the work of Man
This is how Man treats his Mother
Mother Earth

Emgee Poetry, 6 July 2007 (on Gaia)

Kentucky artist Jeff Chapman-Crane has recently completed a new work entitled “The Agony of Gaia”. Originating from the Greek, “Gaia” is the personification of Mother Earth. Unlike most of his work, which is two-dimensional, this piece is a life-sized, figurative sculpture that depicts Mother Earth suffering the abuse of strip-mining. Created in response to the devastation brought about by such mining practices as mountaintop removal and valley fills, the sculpture took over 1500 hours to complete, spanning over 16 years in its creation.

Planet in Peril - CNN

Anderson Cooper trumps again with his mindblowing, balanced analysis of the issues on both sides of the global warming debate.
Seeing and hearing at first hand the reports and feelings of people from the Carteret Islands: These Islands, since 2005 have progressively become uninhabitable, with an estimate of their total submersion by 2015. The islanders have fought a more than twenty years battle, building a seawall and planting mangroves. However, storm surges and high tides continue to wash away homes, destroy vegetable gardens and contaminate fresh water supplies. The natural tree cover on the island is also being impacted by the incursion of saltwater contamination of the fresh water table. Or is the bleaching of the coral reefs which limits their natural ability to protect against storm surges, bleaching also caused by global warming>

>Lake Chad Lakes disappear, glaciers melt, are floods next?

Reports stated that a Lake, situated more than 2000 miles from the capital Santiago, Chile, has disappeared ! A body of water the size of ten football fields usually filled with water up to 30 metres deep is dry situated some 2000 miles and usually fed by the surrounding glaciers! One main reason put forward is the seismic frequency in the region.

It was reported that the Patagonia glaciers of Chile and Argentina are melting so fast they are making a significant contribution to sea-level rise.

Lake Chad, once one of the African continent’s largest bodies of fresh water, has dramatically decreased in size due to climate change and human demand for water. Once a great lake close in surface area to North America’s Lake Erie, Lake Chad is now a ghost of its former self.

Lake Songor in Ghana is rapidly shrinking, partly as a result of intensive salt production, and the extraordinary changes in the Zambezi river system as a result of the building of the Cabora Basa dam site.
